Traditional block tutorial bridle path
TUTORIAL - Bridle Path
12” block (finished)
Cut
1 - white square 8”
1 - peach square 8”
(These are for 8 at a time hsts. I work with minimal waste so these are tight, if that stresses you out, cut them a quarter inch larger!)
3 x blue strips 1.5” x 12.5” strips
1 x blue strip 1.5” x 6.5”
3 x white strips 1.5” x 12.5”
2 x white strips 1.5” x 6.5”
3 x peach strips 1.5” x 6.5”
First make 8 at a time hsts, marking the diagonal lines as in the photos. Then sew 1/4" on each side of the line and cut through the drawn lines AND through the center horizontally and vertically using the top of the square and the center cross as a cutting guide. Press and trim to 3.5"
Now to strip piece your sets of strips. Three strips together as so.
One 12.5” set
One 12.5” set
One 6.5” set
One 6.5” set
Once they’re pressed (in this block I am pressing open) line them up and cut into 1.5” strips. Rearrange strips into mini blocks and sew the small 9 patches.
Lay out your block like the final images and sew. The middle squares are directional so make sure you double check which side to sew. The block will now measure 12.5"
If you make a quilt with lots of these blocks you can strip piece with 1.5” x WOF (width of fabric) strips to make a bunch at once.
Enjoy!
